Janelle was born in Singapore, and lives and teaches poetry in Brooklyn. She is the winner of the 2022 J. Howard and Barbara M.J. Wood Prize from the Poetry Foundation. Her poems appear in The Atlantic, Poetry, Gulf CoastMichigan Quarterly Review, Split Lip, and elsewhere. Her prose appears in Them and The Margins

 

She received her MFA from NYU, and co-curates the DGN Reading Series in Brooklyn. Her work has received fellowships from Brooklyn Poets and NYU’s Global Research Institute. 

Janelle founded and is the Chief Creative Officer of Ninth House, a poetry school for children.
